My goodness this week seems to be flying , and i cannot believe that we are edging ever closer to the summer months. Bring it on , as then everyday i can wear another one of my ever growing sunglasses collection. There has to be an upside to being optician , and summer sure is one of the best times.
So how has your week been going?.. I have to say mine has been going rather well. I have a party to go to at the weekend… a friend’s birthday ,so I am looking forward to letting my hair down. and have a Sauvignon Blanc or 3!. What is your tipple of the moment ?…a friend of mine keeps going on about Pink gin but it always reminds me of politicians during the war years.
I don’t know if you happened to read the Mail on Sunday’s last week in the’ You’ magazine. I came across an article that has inspired the next section of this blog. Simply, it grouped together the four main shapes for sunglasses and matched them with designer sunglasses.
So in a way this blog will do the same except go one step further and recommend which face shape suits which trend and not forgetting aviators.
Round sunglasses - These are back with a bang, and are taking over the faces of many up and down the country ranging from small to large frames. Available in various colours but to be ahead of the trend think tortoiseshell for that real authentic/classic look.
Think the Beatles, Liam Gallagher, Hirohito and Gandhi .
Round sunglasses suit people with a strong bone structure, long or oblong face as it helps to soften the sometimes harsh angles.
Retro Sunglasses have been coming up trumps, and I have so many genuine retro and also ‘newtro’ sunglasses this is a look that will never leave, as the colours and shapes are classic and just get a freshen up each season. This season the introduction of tobacco shades and amber makes the new sunglasses look aged and shapes hail from any bygone era, larger frames tend to be taking inspiration from the 60’s think Jackie O, Mary Quant, Andy Warhol, Arthur Askey and Harold Lloyd.
The retro sunglass is dependant on shape but if they are more rounded than angled people with square, triangle or oblong face shapes will benefit though people with a heavier set face will benefit from something with more of angle.
Cat’s eye sunglasses have clawed their way up the fashion pack picks , and scratched the eyes of many editors on the front rows of the shows. The look hails back to the 50’s , and with that great shape comes many benefits in the sense of the wider brow line that narrows at an angle to a much smaller base of the lens. This look can be carried of by all face shapes and the look is a very glamorous look think:- Paloma faith, Dita von Teese, the fifties housewife or secretary and not forgetting Dame Edna Everage.
Fancy sunglasses are what can finally be described as sunglasses that are more in your face and bold in statement. Colours rich patterns and quirky or intricate finishing touches. Shapes are varied and range size all that can be said are these are not for someone a person who does not like to stand out from the crowd.
Depending on confidence and shape this is a look that could be carried of by one and all.
Current trend setters are:- The Rizzle Kicks, Tinchie Stryder, Katy Perry,Lady GaGa and Jessie J

The fashion press at the moment are still celebrating the news of Raf Simons creative director at Dior. The man known for minimalism going to head a House known for opulence, and over the grandeur thanks to John Galliano. I will certainly like many be pleased to see Rafs first collection and see how his influence will be interpreted by the big House and see what new vision he brings.
On my recent trip down to London on the streets I was not surprised to see the wonderful usual diverse mix of looks that London sports on the streets. Many of the crowd looking like they had stepped out from a magazine or in some case a 40’s film cast. In Soho, there certainly seemed to be no end to creative expression on the streets and the way some choose to interpret the trends fascinates me. A couple that stood out for me were a Lady in her 40’s who seemed so comfortable in her own skin ….and what skin! She looked like a young Elizabeth Taylor and seemed a little bit of fashion magpie in seamed stockings a cool up do and stiletto’s that were like stilts.A bag that looked like it could hold a small child as well as all its paraphernalia. To top the look she had on one of the new Miu Miu cameo’s and a pair of red Miu Miu carte noire sunglasses.
A young man who looked like he had stepped out of an edgy band with his full sleeve tattoo, braces, Comme des Garcon play blue polo shirt, skinny chino’s rolled to reveal blue socks and Paul Smith slouch shoes .His hair was quaffed to an inch of his life and his outfit was complete with Paul Smith Cochrane brown sunglasses, I was informed that his look was an upmarket petrol head ( i asked nothing further as I have no clue as to what a petrol head is)
In London the Miu Miu store was a breath of fresh bright airy and bright to say the least as usual the assistants oozed the glamour and looked as if they were really dressed for a meeting with vogue, prints and colours clashed and music was on lightly in the background. The Miu Miu sunglasses collection has new pieces coming in around a months time and i will be adding these when we receive them i do promise you that. They are the Miu Miu Culte sunglass collection, so if you would like to reserve them now…you know which ones these are!!….email me and I will put you on the top of the list. The usual discount will apply to these as well , my lovelys!…See, I spoil you all rotten!
So what sights have you been Judging whilst out and about let me know I do love to people watch
So for now my wonderful Judges I am off for a G ‘n’t T to finish the day and watch the news then grab an early night.
How the devil are you on this fine day, all good I hope !
Well here at the optician’s I have to say we are maxed out on Sunglasses .For once we have taken full delivery of all this years stock and are pleased with the results. For yet another year looking back to what I ordered late last year it appears the Judge’s eye was right with the choices. A fellow Optician is reporting slow sales and is wishing he had got on the Bottega Veneta sunglass wagon before it left last year. You Judges seem to know what you like on the website …we are having a flurry of orders coming through from Europe and London for Balenciaga sunglasses and Bottega Veneta sunglasses …..the fashion capital knows it’s stuff.
Paul smith seems to hold no boundaries when it comes to his massive empire. Recently Paul Smith announced and launched his collaboration with British Surf label Swami, not only that but his store in the big apple on 5th avenue celebrated it’s 25th birthday. Seems the U.S. still have an affinity for us Brit’s and our style.
Most recently though Sir Paul celebrated another coupe with the opening of his store in Amsterdam. Holland appears to love us all too. Paul Smith’s S/S12 latest menswear collection incorporates Psychadelic prints with traditional tailored twists the collection is a man’s dream and with the latest Paul smith sunglasses collection remaining transparent or in strong neutral or monochromes there is no chance these will take away from this vibrant style only compliment it.
Nottingham born Paul Smith not only still loves his home town but does various collaborations with the local council including branding and design of product for their visitors. I love Paul Smith Eye wear and have several pairs of sunglasses and prescription ophthalmics.
I am off to don my stripey scarf and close up for the day, so Judges keep ‘em peeled !
This early summer is so nice… the blue of the skies , the smiles on my patients’ faces… it all seems to add up to make us feel better on the outside and in. Well ,my patients’ are all a twitter about their holiday plans and the talk of bank holidays. Now what should I do this Easter… gorge on Easter eggs and watch James Bond as normal, or should I eat Easter eggs and write blogs …. You know me too well already.
So talking of Easter eggs, what is your favourite Easter egg? Mine is Reece’s peanut buttercups one ……mmmmmmmm!
So today I am talking all things Prada again ! This year is seeing so much activity from the military like bunker that is home to the Prada headquarters. Muccia has made a massive impact over the past 30 years in charge of the Label introducing what she call’s a new aesthetic to the modern language and the style that she chooses to proclaim as Bugly beautiful yet Ugly in lay mans terms.
Her style is unique and looks sometimes like a beautiful car crash and this season seems to throw this in the face of all you fashionistas with her advertising campaign for Prada mainline. Advertising for her younger more accessible line Miu Miu is perfectly beautiful all about her fantastic electrifying pallet of bleached out citruses against reds with her over sized cameos.
Muccia is not interested in making clothing for the perfect beauties of the fashion world. She calls herself a dramatic voyeur and loves to see the drama’s of the everyday folk and incorporate these rich tales into the background of her works. She loves the cliches that are femininity in todays female world. Think delicate lace against the likes of python or leopard print.
Prada and Miu Miu are in their own rights trail blazing luxury labels for the daring and fashionably brave who love quality with a fashion that has substance as well as being the correct label to be seen in …… The world is Prada and Muccia loves nothing better than having her hand in from start to finish.
Muccia in her own also states the labels feed off each other and keep both fresh and at the forefront of the trend stakes.
Miu Miu carte noire sunglasses this year has been one of the must have accessories fro all the fashion pack and even I have sent pairs out to Conde Naste… see, sometimes the Judge is too ahead of the London shops, proving it’s not only what you know .
Well so far 2012 is bring us a wealth of varying trends and it seems anything goes in relation to sunglasses as long as the main principles are followed. This year sunglasses are going more retro than ever before with shapes reflecting shades from the 1800’s and the swinging sixties from Downtown and W.E. to Boardwalk Empire and the latest offering from BBC inspired by the on/off relationship between David Bailey and Jean Shrimpton ‘we’ll take Manhattan’.
The future is as round as the globe and angles are more subtle with simple sweeps of edges rather than the sharp angles of previous years.
This trend will compliment the look of outifts that are being presented for A/W12 with the likes of Alberta Ferretti in her roaring 20’s inspired high luxe collection with more than just a nod towards Erte’s great illustrations. Dolce&Gabbana’s Baroque inspired menswear collection and Prada who is re-visiting the land of gentry in Muccia’s subtle love of the classic man in her unique twist.
Colourwise in the collections of sunglasses nude is a hot look though some may say a little impractical, think gold and of course clear and the sexiness of tobacco/amber ( who ever said smoking was bad for you never saw Paul smith)
So come on all let’s rebel against the austerity packages and cheer ourselves up with some high lux wear and think sod the saving we may all be gone by 21.12.12 but at least we look frigging amazing.
Also look out gold this season in sunglases is more a subtle matte tone rather than the shiny yellow look of the past so come on let’s embrace it and stay cool.
Well, today I think i have come down with the dreaded bug, and I’m curled up on the sofa drinking hot lemon and whiskey….purely medicinal you must understand, and eating anything with chocolate on the label!….and watching copious amounts of TV. I must give a big thanks to Sir Richard Branson and his media empire for supplying me with so many channels i never knew existed!!!…I’m on a telethon watching ‘Ancient Aliens’ back-to-back on the History Channel. Isn’t that Giorgio a cool guy fellow Judges!…and i’ve been watching all about those poor misunderstood Aztecs….slightly a bit cruel, but what cool clothing!!…. and they were certainly innovative with their architecture…but one thing upset me slightly….they say we are all going to vapourise on the 21st December 2012…..and that got me thinking…..what sunglasses will you be wearing to watch the end of the world?…
.To watch the volcanoes erupting and the bright meteors crash landing to the earth, what better than a cool pair of Oakley sunglasses?. full UV protection and with the polarised version glare will be reduced to a minimum…. Oakley shades Wraparounds will also protect your eyes from the strong UV that will be present, and whilst everyone is turning into pillars of salt like Lot’s wife, youll be able to view all this with such clarity. And when the ‘rapture’ occurs what about wearing a cool pair of Miu Miu Carte Noire sunglasses to meet your intended maker. You want to stand out in the crowd don’t you, as I suspect the queue to enter the kingdom of heaven being slightly busy!…Miu Miu shades will make you look a million dollars, although i suspect the Greenback will not be needed up there!.. Who knows!..might be the euro!… and i suspect that the Allmighty may let some men in as well, so you cool dudes, wear a pair of Paul Smith sunglasses. Wearing a pair of Paul smith shades, there will be a lot of fallen angels afterwards..
Well after all this depressing talk, i’m going back to bed with a port and brandy now….purely medicinal you must understand, and play my Sean Paul track so i can party like its the end of the world!….Do not worry my fellow Judges’…i will still be contacting you..from up there, or possibly knowing my luck, from down below……
Miu Miu has lauched it’s new collection of cinema noir inspried optics to rave reviews from the fashion elite. How the devil are you on this fine Spring day ? I am sat at my desk with the sun streaming through and the birds twittering away ! Spring has finally arrived and here we are all full of the joys of the season ! It seems Spring has finally started and the smiles on the faces of folk around town can only be described as infectious.
The style council are already out in their joyous new clobber for the season and some very interesting looks are happening out on the cobbled streets. People seem to be pounding the concrete in shorts and t shirts to cast away the final throws of Winter. I must say Spring is my favourite season it seems people just seem to be able to smile again and are no longer cast in their black cloaks or heavy coats. The first rays of sun of sun bring about a change in us Brit’s and a sense of optimism is sweeping over us again.
Maybe I have that S.A.D thing as all I wanted to really do this Winter was sleep and eat, or is that us all ? So Judges, what is your favourite season ? How do those first rays of sun make you feel ? Go on let me know, you know you want to !
So all the shows are done for this season Miu Miu and Prada are being coveted by every fashion hack pounding the streets in there lipstick heels and 50’s retro Miu Miu sunglasses, thinking they are somehow more glamorous than you screen sirens who have already gone crazy for them. The look Muccia wanted to portray was that of Americana in it’s heyday back in the days where stars had real clout and set trends and just entertained. Stars in those days had true talents and glamour came naturally to many think Audrey, Marilyn, Greta , Rita the list goes on so come on ladies channel that inner siren.
The relationship between entertainment and fashion has always been a strong one but Muccia Prada took it to another level this season in her menswear show when rather than casting models she decided to call on every A Lister she has kitted out over the past couple of decades in a Baroque inspired collection for A/W 12. Anyway I digress sorry for that tangent slipping in there focus Judge focus.
For you men reading this Prada sunglasses are not only practical stylish and quality pieces, they have the ability to make you somehow feel somehow more stylish than you already are and with there simple lines and sporty look transport you from the sports field to the streets in a hop skip and a jump.
Ladies Prada designer shades have smashed it with the whole collection featuring heavily in the fashion press, music videos on screen and more obviously on the streets near you. The collection nods back to fashion archives and styles are big ,they bring a wearable look to any outfit. These are set to become the new classics for 2012.
The collection is divided into the main collection and the ‘The Swing’ collection takes inspiration from a simple round frame with scrolling detailed arms in various fashionable colours, ‘the Swing’ collection looks back as always will keep you looking one step ahead. These beauties are not for everyone but the main collection has something for everyone and will keep those peepers protected and looking right up there with the A Lister’s.
Muccia prada is creative director for both Prada and Miu Miu and has set what has in the past been a brand that was concerned with style and no substance, to a more cerebral label of late with technique and new fabric innovations always featuring in both labels collections. Prada caters for the higher end and more fashion conscious with such a knowledge of her market she never seems to fail these days.
Miu Miu is Muccias more fun side and often features bright and bold patterns that you may need to wear your Carte noire to look at yourself in the mirror. The Carte Noire collection of Miu Miu eye wear is again a separate collection to the mainline but i can only envisage this will continue to influence the collections direction what with Muccia introducing the stunning cameo collection of jewellery pieces this year .
So for now my fellows i shall bid you good day
Remember to keep us posted on your news and thoughts and thank you for reading.
I hope you are all well and rested. We here at http://www.sendoptics.com/ are finally recovered from keeping abreast of all the latest fashion news and also fashion weeks. We enjoyed London for its usual cutting edge style that keeps Brittania ruling those waves, New York for its Modern corporate look, Paris for its Luxury two fingers up to the economic backlash and my personal favourite was Milan.
Italians do, do it better that is for sure the Milan fashion week has two faces these are Saturday night favourites Dolce & Gabbana, Prada, and the breathtaking Miu Miu collection which was the usual riot of color and print. The collection would of made many don there sunglasses. The young, fashion, on trend and forward thinking style mobs loved all of these labels collections. It was for Milan a truly exciting time and forgetting like other fashion packs the depressing economic cut backs.
As polar opposites to these you have the mature grown up power pack of Milan that still dominate the fashion magazines with their multiple lines and even hotels. Labels that helped shape the Italian look from back in the seventies include Giorgio Armani, Prada and of course the label on everyone’s lips at the moment Gucci. The label saw itself back to it’s true self simple shapes, effortless glamour, and a massive smattering of graphic block prints how could they have failed.
At http://www.sendoptics.com/Gucci.html the usual styles of aviator, big styles and angular sunglasses rule the collection and update any wardrobe to look like a gucci ambassador for style. Color is a massive inclusion to the collection this time with berry and nudes and lashings of Platinum and gold.
We love the fantastic reinvention of the collection and the subtler logo still present but not as prominent the famous Interlocking G
So you as the Jury it is upto you to let us know what you think of the new Gucci collection in relation to the other wonders we have to offer.
Have a great couple of days, until next time Keep on judging and keep em peeled
I hope you are all fine and Dandy! Looking forward to the weekend … Here at Sendoptics.com we have been busy of late, what with the Fashion shows for A/W 2012 shows, customers coming into the shop looking at the new collections of optics and sunglasses. We have lots of great comments about our selections.
Well unless you have been living on the moon or in some far off country you may not be aware that it’s that time of year! Yup you Judges its awards time; we have already had The Grammy’s, The Bafta’s, The Mobo’s and recently we have had The Brit’s. The biggest award of the film world is upon us and the star’s of the big screen have been eating lettuce and bleaching and blitzing their bikini lines. Begging and stealing from any designer that is the one to watch.
The films are the obvious stars in the Oscars and they earn massive credence to popular and more art-house films also. For the past few weeks we at Judges Opticians have in our own time been enjoying some of the films our local cinemas have on the screen.
Well the firm favourite is ‘The Artist’ set to sweep the floor at the Oscar’s with multiple wins across the board. The film had us in awe set to a backdrop of the silent film industry in the transition of changing over to ‘talkies’. The film pay’s homage to Hollywood’s glorious hey days of the glamour and glitz of the 30’s. The stars would look equally at home in today’s styles the leading man Jean Dujardin would not look out of place in Oliver peoples sunglasses. The Starlet that looks so beautiful in everything she could easily go back in time and slot straight in to the silent era with the most beautiful features and expressive faces on film would look stunning in Miu Miu .
Another hopeful is ‘The Help’ which is set against a background of the changing political landscape of America and the changing attitude toward black housemaids in the civil rights era. The Star Viola Davis who plays one of the maids is up for an Oscar for best supporting actress and we think to finish the 60’s inspired look of Prada would look great on her.
Obviously we are loving ‘Warhorse’ Speilberg created a masterpiece in this film and treated the subject with a great human story alongside a backdrop of the blood and squalid conditions of the first world war. The film itself is described as an epic and is deservedly recommended for various different award categories. The owner who is a young soon to be soldier played by Jeremy Irvine would look great in Paul Smith
The British made spy drama ‘Tinker, tailor, soldier, spy’ this is made in true Brit-flick all grit and in true sharp dressed elegance. The story itself is a classic and is known as one of the best spy dramas ever. The film has one of the best British casts to be seen in many a year. The cast as a whole would look fantastic in Dior homme any of the men would look great in these.
So we will be there on Oscars night with our popcorn and fake awards to see whether our Judgement on the films that are already held in high regard win their just rewards.
