This early summer is so nice… the blue of the skies , the smiles on my patients’ faces… it all seems to add up to make us feel better on the outside and in. Well ,my patients’ are all a twitter about their holiday plans and the talk of bank holidays. Now what should I do this Easter… gorge on Easter eggs and watch James Bond as normal, or should I eat Easter eggs and write blogs …. You know me too well already.
So talking of Easter eggs, what is your favourite Easter egg? Mine is Reece’s peanut buttercups one ……mmmmmmmm!
So today I am talking all things Prada again ! This year is seeing so much activity from the military like bunker that is home to the Prada headquarters. Muccia has made a massive impact over the past 30 years in charge of the Label introducing what she call’s a new aesthetic to the modern language and the style that she chooses to proclaim as Bugly beautiful yet Ugly in lay mans terms.
Her style is unique and looks sometimes like a beautiful car crash and this season seems to throw this in the face of all you fashionistas with her advertising campaign for Prada mainline. Advertising for her younger more accessible line Miu Miu is perfectly beautiful all about her fantastic electrifying pallet of bleached out citruses against reds with her over sized cameos.
Muccia is not interested in making clothing for the perfect beauties of the fashion world. She calls herself a dramatic voyeur and loves to see the drama’s of the everyday folk and incorporate these rich tales into the background of her works. She loves the cliches that are femininity in todays female world. Think delicate lace against the likes of python or leopard print.
Prada and Miu Miu are in their own rights trail blazing luxury labels for the daring and fashionably brave who love quality with a fashion that has substance as well as being the correct label to be seen in …… The world is Prada and Muccia loves nothing better than having her hand in from start to finish.
Muccia in her own also states the labels feed off each other and keep both fresh and at the forefront of the trend stakes.
Miu Miu carte noire sunglasses this year has been one of the must have accessories fro all the fashion pack and even I have sent pairs out to Conde Naste… see, sometimes the Judge is too ahead of the London shops, proving it’s not only what you know .
Well so far 2012 is bring us a wealth of varying trends and it seems anything goes in relation to sunglasses as long as the main principles are followed. This year sunglasses are going more retro than ever before with shapes reflecting shades from the 1800’s and the swinging sixties from Downtown and W.E. to Boardwalk Empire and the latest offering from BBC inspired by the on/off relationship between David Bailey and Jean Shrimpton ‘we’ll take Manhattan’.
The future is as round as the globe and angles are more subtle with simple sweeps of edges rather than the sharp angles of previous years.
This trend will compliment the look of outifts that are being presented for A/W12 with the likes of Alberta Ferretti in her roaring 20’s inspired high luxe collection with more than just a nod towards Erte’s great illustrations. Dolce&Gabbana’s Baroque inspired menswear collection and Prada who is re-visiting the land of gentry in Muccia’s subtle love of the classic man in her unique twist.
Colourwise in the collections of sunglasses nude is a hot look though some may say a little impractical, think gold and of course clear and the sexiness of tobacco/amber ( who ever said smoking was bad for you never saw Paul smith)
So come on all let’s rebel against the austerity packages and cheer ourselves up with some high lux wear and think sod the saving we may all be gone by 21.12.12 but at least we look frigging amazing.
Also look out gold this season in sunglases is more a subtle matte tone rather than the shiny yellow look of the past so come on let’s embrace it and stay cool.
Well, today I think i have come down with the dreaded bug, and I’m curled up on the sofa drinking hot lemon and whiskey….purely medicinal you must understand, and eating anything with chocolate on the label!….and watching copious amounts of TV. I must give a big thanks to Sir Richard Branson and his media empire for supplying me with so many channels i never knew existed!!!…I’m on a telethon watching ‘Ancient Aliens’ back-to-back on the History Channel. Isn’t that Giorgio a cool guy fellow Judges!…and i’ve been watching all about those poor misunderstood Aztecs….slightly a bit cruel, but what cool clothing!!…. and they were certainly innovative with their architecture…but one thing upset me slightly….they say we are all going to vapourise on the 21st December 2012…..and that got me thinking…..what sunglasses will you be wearing to watch the end of the world?…
.To watch the volcanoes erupting and the bright meteors crash landing to the earth, what better than a cool pair of Oakley sunglasses?. full UV protection and with the polarised version glare will be reduced to a minimum…. Oakley shades Wraparounds will also protect your eyes from the strong UV that will be present, and whilst everyone is turning into pillars of salt like Lot’s wife, youll be able to view all this with such clarity. And when the ‘rapture’ occurs what about wearing a cool pair of Miu Miu Carte Noire sunglasses to meet your intended maker. You want to stand out in the crowd don’t you, as I suspect the queue to enter the kingdom of heaven being slightly busy!…Miu Miu shades will make you look a million dollars, although i suspect the Greenback will not be needed up there!.. Who knows!..might be the euro!… and i suspect that the Allmighty may let some men in as well, so you cool dudes, wear a pair of Paul Smith sunglasses. Wearing a pair of Paul smith shades, there will be a lot of fallen angels afterwards..
Well after all this depressing talk, i’m going back to bed with a port and brandy now….purely medicinal you must understand, and play my Sean Paul track so i can party like its the end of the world!….Do not worry my fellow Judges’…i will still be contacting you..from up there, or possibly knowing my luck, from down below……
I do hope the sun is creating a warm fuzzy feeling with you all as it is myself thanks to the lovely warm temperatures of late. Things are going really well here at Judge towers the buzzer on the door has not stopped ringing and the ping of e-mails keeps ringing in my ears.
Well my fellow Judges I have to say you have been rather demanding of late my fingers seem to have made impressions upon the keyboard and you seem to be enjoying my little nougats of fashion news, So all I can say is a big thank you for your your comments and your time you take to read my little gems.
Fashion as we have been saying over the recent blogs is hankering back to the days of crafts and sensible hem lines intermingled with bold colours or pastels and patterns that have us reaching for our shades, Texture is playing a huge part of key looks and embellishment is heavy and almost handy craft in some collections. Part of this trend seems to focus on the age old tradition of lace.
If you think of lace you not only do you think of intricate detailing and techniques passed through the ages, ultra feminine styling and most of all religious ceremonies. What you may not realise is lace is one of the key trends for 2012. However you choose to sport this look this summer remember you saw it here with the introduction of the stunning Dolce and Gabanna sunglasses last year the collection spy’s this seasons trend before it’s time and if you don’t wish to sport the look on your body ladies this is a simple way to incorporate the look into wardrobe. The Dolce and Gabanna sunglasses are made using only the finest quality materials including Intricate lace detail impregnated into the acetate.
The lace collection is available for a limited period and once sold out never to be seen again. These Dolce and Gabbana shades leave their plain and simple designer counterparts in the shadows, All I can leave you to say is all you Ab Fab fans who lust after Lacroix may already know that the Grandfather of french cool has copied this idea with a simple lace print and tried to push it as original concept. The print is not the same quality as the lace being incorporated into the actual frame leaves something to be desired to say the least.
Lace is after all the new black and Dolce and Gabbana were their before it made it’s way to the head of so many collections this season
Well the Jury is out on many things in the style stakes… do I go for wider trousers this season, which shade of blue will i be sporting?.Do you think my patients will appreciate me in a sheer shirt ?( good god no i hear you all shout at your laptops !!!). Do i wear my hair ruffled or immaculately shiny and looking like a throwback from the 40’s short back and sides me thinks?..I’ll just end up looking like Arthur Askey!!….No!…..i’m not THAT old!!!…just like old movies….
You may think this is all i have to worry about ! you are so wrong as these are mere trivial things that take up a few minutes compared to last year when i drove up to a sunglasses show in the north of England. How glamorous my life is… I got to see them all last year and it was here i stumbled over one of the most forward thinking yet somehow wearable collections. I loved the way the collection was so inspired by the past yet somehow looked so modern at the same time.
The collection was presented in such a way it almost shone out amongst some of the bigger hitters and made them look almost tired, Balenciaga sunglasses are not afraid to make a statement yet like all other labels prides itself on quality of design and with rather a quirky twist to boot.
The collection comprises of six shapes available in limited colourings of nudes and black this is because at Balenciaga the colour happens in their clothing collections. Design is often turned on it’s head and Balenciaga Eye wear is only to be described as must haves for those that dare to be a little more daring with their sunnies. The key hole nose bridge in heavy black acetate is one of my personal favourites and the pair i myself decided to purchase there and then. On arrival i also put the heavy black square eyes to one side for when the sun came out and have not been without either of them since.
Balenciaga began life as a fashion trailblazer and with the Renaissance the label has had over the past decade it seems they are not only quirky fly by nights but the Picasso of the the fashion world ( thank you Anna wintour for that description).
So what i want to really say is when you are considering the big investment into the world of designer sunglasses are you sure you want to be surrounded by the sheep or do you want blaze a trail in Balenciaga like myself.
I wanted to bring something ever so slightly different this year and boy did i do well
So come on Judges what do you think to Balenciaga ?
Yep you guessed it blog time and today’s subject matter in hand is the creative and fashion King of the stateside corner of the fashion globe Marc Jacobs…. but hold up, how rude of me in a whirl to get this show on the road… I never even thanked you for the great response we have been enjoying to our recent posts …… So a big thank you to you all for taking five or ten minutes out of your precious days to read my mindless babble.
So without further need I am going to hurl you into the ‘crazy’ world of Marc Jacobs. Born in New York back in ‘63 Jacobs himself has two labels which he has complete creative control over , and his second Job being… no, not a paperboy but only Creative Director for the fashion Juggernaut Louis Vuitton. Jacobs, a self proclaimed king of self publicity recently did his bow in a polo dress and no I am not talking a Ralph Lauren dress but a Polo ‘T’ shirt dress! The man certainly is ahead of his game. I think I will stick to My palazo’s to relax in… no risk of dropping a clanger there.
So Jacobs having all the spare time he has recently finished off New york fashion week with Two shows for his own labels, and in Paris he did what can only be described as one of the most ostentatious shows for Louis Vuitton .The models were shown on a LV monogammed merry- go -round with heaps of white luggage and colourful clothes, but that was not all. More recently, in the recent Paris ready to wear shows, Vuitton presented the collection of by- gone inspired fur drenched collections off none other than a train station ,and the models all departed the train to a stunning reception.
Marc Jacobs garners his inspiration from multiple areas creating a new look for each collection but all his collections have an uber feminine feel making him one of the top female designers of the moment.
So i hear you ask what has this man to do with us when all you have is a few pairs of Marc Jacobs sunglasses in the reduced section?…. well, patience my fellow Judges’ as I am happy to announce that i have gone and done it…. yup ,I have snapped up a veritable selction of the lovely Marc Jacobs eyewear so you can be right in there with all fashion’s hottest.
So if you tired of Chanel , fed up of Fendi then look no further than the designer Marc Jacobs shades for this season’s statement.
Simply update your look, wardrobe with some of these beautys
For now, Judges I have my own carousel to ride and a whole lot more blogging to do to keep you hungry lot from chomping at the bitt
This week I am having a little flurry of inspiration of blog subjects with going over the archives of the past weeks fashion news. It seems the world as a whole is favouring the good old days and nostalgia is rife within the Spring/Summer collections.
One of my favourites and I know your favourites of the moment is the fashion ‘Dahling’ Stella McCartney who seems at the moment to not be able to put a Platform wedge wrong, not only did she recently have an original though shall we say almost flash mob fashion show at London. This was to premiere her new eveningwear collection to the world. Stella hosted a sophisticated soiree with close family and friends and of course the obligatory Supermodels ( whom do seem to fall into the circle of friends). The latter of the guests were made to earn their scran and after dessert was cleared away the tone of the evening changed and the waiting staff along with the supermodels of yesteryear and today started to get their groove on. Of course this was all a choregraphed routine by the team who created the routine for Daft punks ‘Around the world’.
Stella McCartney in real life is friends with the worlds most glamorous females of the moment including everyone’s favourite diet chef Gwyneth Paltrow , Gymtastic Madge, All legs Diaz and that is just her bestie’s . Often found slouching in rather subdued clothing McCartneys style is all that of a simple English rose transported into the fashion idea of a farce. She prefers to just chillax and gain inspiration from her past adventures and loves nothing more than a good boogie on down in her studio stroke second home in London.
McCartney is speedily gaining favour with the fashion Elite being ‘a girl’s girl’ she designs what she would be seen dead in as she was once quoted. Here I am seeing an ever increasing demand for more feminine products and you ladies are certainly keeping me busy. Stella McCartney sunglasses this season are so far the most popular label to be seen in. You are certainly not affraid to go against this seasons advice and ditch the Stella McCartney aviators as this model in any of the colours is huge. Mind being the model that Stella sports all the time I am not surprised the quality of Stella McCartney shades are second to none being made of sustainable materials , recycled or even specially created materials to have the least impact on the earth’s natural resources. See, who could have thought that you could not be stylish and make an Enviromental statement all in one.
Stella not only designs for her own label but also has a succesful colaboration with Adidas so come on ladies get into sport with Stella and rock the trend of sportschic.
So all I can say is it must be in the genes and we are heralding the birth of another McCartney British institution
So for now Judges I am off for a glass of cold nettle tea and going to munch on mung beans
Well I wish we were unforetunately it looks like the weathermen seemed to have gotten a couple of things wrong with the forecasts of late. We were promised a week of sun and of course temperatures that would rival late April in the Med. How wrong it’s been… cloudy and is it just me ,or has it been rather chilly?. Mind you, I have to say the other weekend when the weather was glorious, I donned my trainers, shorts, ipod, and not to forget my Oakleys and did my first run in the open for some time.
So with the Olympics coming in August are you getting the buzz with yet, what with more of us spending a small fortune on Kit and Gym’s. Local councils doing more to get people to use local facilities it seems in the past few years we Brit’s are shunning a few hours a week in front of the gogglebox and the trappings of modern world to get back to some good old endorphin rich sports.
Is this because of events like the Olympics or is it just body fascisim gone mad and we are all trying to set our body’s to a new fitness level?. I say, who care’s for the reson we all know that doing some form of activiity that is above our normal heartrate is good for us.
One company that is taking it to the extremes in more ways than one is the company Oakley. The company began back in 1975 and has grown to be the suplier of all forms of sporting eyewear. The sports they cater for range from high adreniline sports such as motorsports, bmxing, snowboarding, and sailing. To the more sedate sports of bowling, running and not to forget that increasingly popular sport of shooting. ( One of our customers and someone who is very close to the website insists that his Oakleys have improved his shooting and with interchangeable lenses he is never with them).
Oakley began life in the garage of it’s founder Jim Jannard with only $300 of backing determined to create Oakley shades the market leader and push boundaries in ways no other company had before. It took Jim 17 long years to create the O shape that pushed the company to the heady heights of success and become every sportsmans most prized piece of equipment.
Today Oakley supplies not only Oakley sunglasses, Oakley Eyewear but also clothing making the company one of the best and biggest sporting brands in the world. Oakley sponsor major sporting events and sports stars alike, this year they are sponsoring the US team for the Olympics and many other countries alike.
So come on Judges lets get the heartrates up and get pumping that tarmac
Keep em peeled for the torch and those medals and all that is left for me to say is good luck to the whole of the British Olympic squad and keep the gold for us .
And hey, you never know cash for gold may ask you for their next ad!
Well it’s been a little over a couple weeks since I promised a regular men’s blog and as to our word this is it. So fellow Judges what is new with you ? Here at http://www.sendoptics.com/bottega-venata.html have been so busy with everything going in the shop and on line. I have added our new babies to the Judges stable ,those being http://www.sendoptics.com/balenciaga.html and the high luxe http://www.sendoptics.com/bottega-venata.html both attracting comments and praise so thanks so much for letting us know your thoughts on these, please continue to let us know your thoughts on the site and the collections and if you think I need to add anything drop me a line. Come on you know you love to tell me your thoughts as much as I love to hear them.
So Gent’s as promised in this blog we are dedicating to you savvy dandies who are wanting to know the Judges thoughts on this Spring Summers trends. Read on….. We have recently launched the New Prada linear rossa collection, Prada have chosen world champion British boxing star Amir khan to be the face of the collection to show the strength and youthful approach to these classic high performance sunglasses. (add collection tag)
So what look will you gents be sporting this Season personally I am thinking of the wider legged trouser so much freer and if the sun does come out it’s good to have a bit of air circulating isn’t it. Trousers in general will still remain slim fitting at the base of the leg but becoming wider around the thighs. Think Downton Abbey, Upstairs Downstairs and not forgetting the Woman in Black… Nostalgia is as big for men this season as it is for women. (add sunglasses type here)
The biggest colour story that is happening this season for you men is a favourite safe hold , whether it is indigo, cobalt, Wedgwood, sky or pastel blue is not only the colour of the waters we are all dreaming of this summer or the sky’s we have had a crafty peak at. Blue is not a mood it is the colour of peace and style. Don’t just wear it as a single block wear it separate shades or with other colors of the moment. Bottega Venatta has rocked the use of blue for it’s menswear spring/summer collection 2012.
With Gucci life become a fail safe fashion moment of plaid mayhem that of course worked so well in it’s monochrome, vision of a summer classically tailored collection will suit all body shapes and most of all add that safe classic twist to a fresh mature look that is still bang on trend. Go Gucci go …….. Just add a preppy twist with a bow tie loafers and Gucci sunglasses
Bah humbug no I have not lost it but the barber set quartet are rocking those stripes so well i have decided to rock it myself … not just Breton striped tops but the wider candy stripes or even convict stripes …. black or white or blue and white … go on give it a go ( add sunglasses here and comment) The best thing about stripes are the candy stripes think a stick of humbug rock and back to the days when i strolled down the prom.
Last but not least is the dressier side of menswear this season fabrics that are iridescent in high luxe finishes, satin silks and of course the ever present tonic, don’t go rocking the sweaty look sheen is the classy look fine velvet blazers are the way to dress at night.
Monochrome men is still with us too stay but this year try rocking the look with a colour block , blue and black are a good way to bring the two together . Prep it up style guru’s and rock the looks with the Judge. One final piece of advice Just choose one or two key pieces and invest in your accessories. With this spring summer think outside your usual safety zones try new things. Come on sod the judgement of others there is only so much time left until we celebrate the 21 of December……
For now all I am off to do a spot of shopping to go with my new sunglasses ( just one of the perks of the job )
We hope March is treating you to some sun as it is us, all be it struggling through. Let’s hope the mad March Hares bring us some fantastic rays to bring our spirits back and the vitamin d back into our system( it’s true sunshine does make us feel more positive)
Well at www.sendoptics.com are busy getting ready for easter with many of our actual in store customers choosing to purchase sunglasses or optics as a present. We never really considered this until one of elderly patient’s came in and said their wife was undergoing treatment for cataracts and he had been told by the specialist she was under, that in not any circumstances to go out in the day unless she had a pair of UVA/B protected sunglasses.
Sunglasses whatever you use them for these days are a staple whether it like above, be a medical reason, fashion or for more specialist reasons. So we at www.sendoptics.com would love to hear why you wear yours.
We Judges have always loved sunglasses, for instance in ancient China it is recorded that the high court judges used to oversee proceedings through crystal sunglasses so as to avoid sway on the jury.
Inuits were among the first people to use a form of sunglasses which was an ivory ( no doubt whalebone) figure eight shaped piece. This had a narrow slit and blocked much of the bright sun rays but offered no further protection.
In the mid 1800’s it was research into lens colour and certain health conditions that made further advances. After this research people with Syphilis were prescribed amber coloured lenses as with the condition they became sensitive to changes in light. ( sunglasses for sexual health whatever next).
Research has also began in the late 20 th century into how lens colour effects learning and behaviour. Dyslexics often are prescribed coloured lenses to help with the condition.
It was the 1920’s when an American created the first line of mass produced sunglasses, it was not until 1936 that the first pairs of polarized sunglasses were made available. Jump to the 1940’s and look on any film of beach life you will notice that the general public and of course movie stars of the time were not seen with sunglasses.
Sunglasses as well as being for the uber stylish are often prescribed for various eye conditions including snow blindness, cataracts and forms of eye cancer(insert anymore you can think)
The best way to purchase sunglasses is through a person or company such as an optician - Judges opticians in Leicester or an on line retailer where you can gain advice from an optician or optometrist if needed - www.sendoptics.com We always make sure the sunglasses fit the customers need for style comfort and need and online we provide a full years manufacturers guarantee.
As well as being popular with stars, sunglasses have become popular with poker players. This is so it can help to hide reactions and to intimidate opponents. Tournament players are now being sponsored by some big names.
Did you know that the colour of lenses can often have great effect on the wearer as well as the style.
Gray and green lenses are neutral because they maintain true colors.
Brown lenses cause some change t colour though they also increase contrast.
Turquoise lenses are good for medium and high light conditions, because they are good at enhancing contrast, but don’t cause significant color change.
Orange and yellow lenses increase both contrast and depth perception. They also increase color variation. Yellow lenses are used by pilots, hunter, shooters for their contrast enhancement and width perception properties.
Blue or purple lenses are purely cosmetic( oh you style junkies you)
Finally one thing you all should know is that regardless of summer or winter sun if we start to wear tinted glasses or sunglasses from a young age we can prevent damage and early ageing of the eyes.
We hope you found this little fact based blog of interest and we do hope you keep them peeled and protected. Think sunglasses think www.sendoptics.com
